Vietnam customs discover multiple batches of goods suspected of counterfeiting famous brands
Following Official Dispatch No. 38/CD-TTg of the Prime Minister dated 05 May 2026 on strengthening the enforcement activities against counterfeit and IP infringing goods, Customs authorities across Vietnam have increased inspection and enforcement activities. Many shipments showing signs of IP infringement were detected shortly after the campaign was launched.
Recent Customs actions highlight the increasingly complex situation of counterfeit and IP-infringing goods in Vietnam and the authorities’ intensified enforcement efforts. Customs authorities at Huu Nghi Border Gate recently seized nearly 15,000 cosmetic and fashion products suspected of infringing IP rights, including products bearing signs of counterfeiting of brands such as L’Oreal, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Nike, Charles & Keith, and The North Face.
In another notable case, Customs authorities detected a large shipment of imported dried dates suspected of infringing the protected “Dates Sanwan” trademark, with the infringing goods valued at more than VND 2.2 billion, resulting in significant administrative sanctions and destruction measures.
According to official statistics, Customs authorities handled 23 IP-related violations during the first four months of 2026, involving luxury fashion goods, electronics, food products, industrial components, and automobile spare parts. According to the Customs Department, infringers commonly use inaccurate customs declarations and transit arrangements to conceal counterfeit trademark goods. Several cases have resulted in substantial administrative penalties, while certain serious cases have been recommended for criminal prosecution.
These updates reflect the increasingly serious counterfeit situation in Vietnam, particularly across border routes, e-commerce channels, and transit shipments, as well as the more proactive enforcement approach currently being adopted by Vietnamese authorities.
