Indeed, China's government is expected to take ever-firmer action against counterfeit goods, including stricter measures against online piracy and more careful monitoring of e-commerce platforms.

Counterfeiting and piracy have long been major problems in China, with fake products sold both online and in stores and, to solve this problem, China's Five-Year Plan has aimed to improve how the government combats counterfeit goods and IP theft. Moreover, the goal is to make IP protection more accessible and affordable, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), who are important to China's economy, since they generate new ideas and launch products but who may not have the resources to protect their IP.

The 2021-2025 Five-Year Plan thus effectively positions China not only as a major producer of goods but also as a global leader in IP innovation and protection. In 2025, businesses can expect a more transparent and efficient IP process, with better enforcement, more opportunities for international IP cooperation, and increased support for Chinese companies seeking a stronger global presence.
